Fayette County, Kentucky, Aerial Photos

This all started when I discovered on the UK web site some aerial photos taken in 1937.   Because Fayette Co has developed so much since 1937, it was hard to recognize what was what in the 1937 photos, so I decided to acquire some modern aerial photos from elsewhere on the web, so I could better compare and understand these photos.   The 1937 aerial photos are listed in 4 quadrants, and each quadrant has 5-9 photos, and these photos overlap.

The quality is quite good, and the UK web site allows you to zoom the photos, however, to get the optimum experience, they suggest you download and use the MrSID plugin.   I didn't do that, and the browsing experience is slow and cumbersome, so I decided to save these photos to my hard drive, with the intention of stitching them together, and to offer up a new set of web pages, with the old and new images and maps.

So far, I only have a limited amount of work done, but hope to add more in the future.
Eventually, I might add some clickable links on these photos, so you can see more about a particular place in Fayette Co.   In the meantime, you can hover your mouse pointer over points on the photo and hopefully you'll see a "text balloon" pop-up giving you the name of that point.

You should also experiment by rolling your mouse on and off a photo, to see an overlay photo or map.
