The Kentucky Genealogical Society, Editors Award.

Could you use $50 worth of 'Genealogical Incentives'?

As you can imagine we are always looking for material to publish in Bluegrass Roots.   The KGS instituted The Editors Award several years ago.   The award is intended to recognize someone who has contributed material for publishing in the quarterly, either with a single article, several articles, little tidbits over a period of time, or a combination of all three.

The award shall be up to $50 worth of incentives, to be agreed upon by the Editor and the awardee.   These incentives can be memberships in organizations, books, or anything else that might be used to help further the genealogical research of the awardee.

Furthermore, the awardee is encouraged to be the guest of the KGS at our Annual Seminar, which is normally held the first Saturday in August.   The awardee is also invited to be our guest at our traditional Friday night dinner, on the eve of the Seminar.

Last, but not least, the KGS will pay for one night's stay in a hotel (normally the Holiday Inn Capital Plaza), and breakfast.   The awardee may invite someone to accompany him or her to these events, and also be our guest for the meals.

We hope to be able to make this award at every Annual Seminar.   Persons interested in the award must be a member at the time the material is published.   The time period for considering material published would normally be from August to July, but the Editor may go back further, in order to consider a series of articles.

We're hoping to entice people who have a knack for writing and/or compiling published articles and books, but even if you've never published anything, we'd still like to hear about any ideas you may have.   Perhaps you have something that needs a little 'fleshing out', or even little tidbits that our members would love to know about.   One idea... keep your eyes open for family Bibles at estate auctions.

In any case, feel free to contact us at (502) 223-7541 (Eastern time), if you'd like to discuss the possibilities.   Or you can contact us via e-mail at kygs@aol.com.

P.S. We prefer to get submissions on computer diskette.   WordPerfect is probably the best format, but we can try other formats as well, such as Word for Windows.   Plain old ASCII text will work too.   And for lineage-linked data from a 'genealogy program', we can accept Roots II, Roots III, Brothers Keeper, Family Tree Maker or a GEDCOM file. If in doubt, give us a call.

And congrats to previous Editors Award winners;

1996, Paul Tanner, of Frankfort, KY.
1997, Helen and Louise Sutherland, of Lexington, KY.
1999, Charles Hinds and Cecil Webb, co-winners.
2001, Betty Rolwing Darnell, Shepherdsville, KY.
2002, John Trowbridge, Lawrenceburg
