Our friend and colleague, Landon Wills, passed away on 14-May-1998, at
the age of 81. He had been Editor of Bluegrass Roots almost from its inception
and was one of the handful of people who started the KGS.
Some time ago, Landon and his wife, Ilene Blake Wills, were made
Honorary Life Members, for their service to the KGS. We are deeply
indebted to them and will remember them always.
We have re-actived the Publications Committee, since it will take many hands to
do what Landon and Ilene have done for so many years. Anyone would like to
participate on this committee, please call Al Alfaro at 502-223-8318.
The Summer 98 issue of BR was composed by Landon and Ilene's son, Richard, and his
wife, Colette, and came out in early July, 1998. Most of the material for this
issue came from Committee members, but Richard and Colette put together a
remembrance article on the life of Landon, and it's a must see. This also marks
some big changes in the look of Bluegrass Roots, and we hope you'll like
them.
For the Fall 98 issue, we did something high-tech.
Committee members gathered and selected material and then scanned and e-mailed the
material to Richard and Colette, who live in Canada. They did the
layout and formatting on the PowerMac and then e-mailed us back the galleys for
editing and approval. Once approved, the print-image files were given to our
printing firm, who printed it on their high-quality electronic typesetting equipment.
In Spring 1999, we were proud to announce that Mike Watson, longtime genealogist and editor
of the heralded "Adair County Review", accepted our invitation to become the new editor of
Bluegrass Roots. He is doing a great job, but wants everyone to know he could use a hand in
fleshing out material for the quarterly.
