The Kentucky Genealogical Society, Membership and Miscellaneous.

  • Eligibility for Membership
Anyone interested in genealogy or family history is eligible for membership.   Members who live too far from Frankfort to attend meetings may participate by using our quarterly, Bluegrass Roots.   They may send in free queries, articles and pictures for publication.   Queries are limited to 50-60 words, using names, dates and locations.

  • Join Us
We solicit your membership. Our dues run on a calendar year basis, and are $20.   Institutional memberships (genealogical and historical socities, libraries and museums) are still just $15.

We also encourage contributing memberships, which requires dues of $25, of which $5 goes toward our Projects Fund.   Life Membership now runs $250.   Your membership and support helps you, the Society, and those that follow us, in preserving the genealogical data of Kentucky.

Please have your dues in to us by March 1st in order to not delay you getting the first issue for the year, the Spring issue.   All members get all 4 issues of our quarterly for the year, no matter when you join in the year.   However, if you join after March 1st, allow 4 weeks to get you the previous issues Bluegrass Roots that are already out for the year.

  • Changes of Address
Bluegrass Roots is mailed at bulk-rate, and is not forwarded or returned to the Society, therefore any change of address is the responsibility of the member. For a replacement copy, back issue fee will be necessary.

  • SASE Please
Please include a long self-addressed and stamped envelope with any correspondence, except when ordering books.   And please use 8.5x11 inch paper, preferably white, typewritten, or written with a good black pen.   We have a free printed brochure, but you can get all that and more by browsing our web site.

  • Volunteer Services
Society members volunteer their time at the Ky State Archives and the Ky History Center. Our members are there doing their own research, or assisting the staff of these facilities, and are there to assist others in doing genealogical research.

However, note that we do not have enough members to do research for you.   If you join, you can request a list of researchers for hire.   We do not vouch for their work, but merely make the list available.
