William Dollarhide was born in
1942 in Seattle. Educated at the
University of Washington and
Western Washington
University, he was for eight
years employed as an Associate
Architect at Western
Washington University in
Bellingham, Washington. He
has been in pursuit of his family
origins since 1971. The name
Dollarhide is an Americanization
of de la Hyde, a lineage with
English origins dating back to
the time of William the
Conqueror. His mother’s
ancestry is mostly German and
English.
He currently resides in Salt
Lake City, Utah, and writes
feature articles for the
Genealogy Bulletin, a bimonthly
magazine he founded in 1984,
now published by Heritage
Quest. He is the author of three
books published by
Genealogical Publishing Co.
Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland:
Managing a Genealogical
Project; the Genealogy Starter
Kit; and with William
Thorndale, Map Guide to the
U.S. Federal Censuses,
1790-1920. With Heritage
Quest since 1994, he is the
author of Seven Steps to a
Family Tree, Map Guide to
American Migration Routes,
1735 1815; and British Origins
of American Colonists,
1629-1775.
