The KGS does not have a building of its own. We do not have an official "office",
therefore, we cannot help those who write in asking for research.
Remember, this is all done on a volunteer basis.
The KGS was formed in 1973. Up through 1980, all the administrative chores, such as the general ledger and
mailing list maintenance, were performed by a number of people.
Notably, Garnett Johnson, longtime KGS
Treasurer and later President, did most of this work using a typewriter and addressograph machine.
There were other key players who dealt with the day-to-day activities of the group, and we hope to write
more about them here later.   Mary Jane Rodgers, a charter member in 1973, who was later KGS
President, picked up and sorted the mail for years, and routed the mail to the proper people.
She also was very diligent in answering mail, and doing limited research for correspondents, always trying to lend a special touch.
From 1981-1999, as membership grew from 500 to over 2200, KGS member Brian Harney tended
to the administrative chores. During this time, he applied computer technology to these tasks.

Jan 2000: Brian "retired" from the Board to become Projects Chair. His duties have been split between the Corresponding Secretary and the Treasurer.
Roberta Padgett, Corresponding Secretary, answers both regular mail and e-mail. Write to the KGS at our new email address:

You can see Roberta in action here in her home office.
Brian continues to spend assisting in KGS administrative chores, but in his spare time he works on informational
projects for the group, including these web pages, and various data-entry and indexing projects.   He also has
started to scan genealogical records, some of which can be found on our web site.
A few things, in limited quantities, are on our web pages.   Hope to take this
further someday, once we get more space on the web.   Watch the KGS Archives/Projects page for
any announcements.
